about

Sounds Like Touch is a small organisation that facilitates maker-initiated collaborations on bodily interaction with electronics for a stage context. It was founded in 2019 by Dianne Verdonk.

Sounds Like Touch dreams of a world where expressing yourself through technology with your body feels natural and easy. We support makers in exploring how they can incorporate touch into their electronic performances. We also share the knowledge gained from this work with other artists and organisations, both within and beyond the cultural sector.

We bring creators of all kinds together and support them in growing their creative practice. We organise performances at festivals, set up projects with partners from other fields, and conduct research on touch, technology, and musical interaction - so that we can continue to learn and share our insights with others.

Frequently asked questions

  • Sounds Like Touch connects, guides, and inspires makers at the intersection of bodily interaction, technology, and the performing arts.

We organise Tactology Lab, symposia, meetups, and collaborative sessions that encourage artistic experimentation and knowledge exchange. Through initiatives like Maker Stories, we actively share insights and practices with a broad network of makers and organisations, both within and beyond the cultural sector.

We also offer tailored guidance to artists with questions that align with our expertise, helping to deepen their practice.

Through all our activities, we aim to shape new forms of expression and foster a more connected, embodied approach to technology in the arts.

  • Tactology Lab is a six-day intensive programme for creative makers from a range of disciplines. In a pressure-cooker style collaborative environment, participants explore new ways of creating electronic performances using their own bodies as the primary means of expression. By focusing on physical interaction with electronic instruments or interfaces, the work becomes both personal and visually engaging to an audience, whether as a live performance or an installation. At the end of the programme, participants present or perform at leading festivals such as Rewire and Gaudeamus.

  • Sounds Like Touch has a small core team, but the essence is the broader network of makers around us. We need you and your ideas to keep going!

However, you don't have to be a maker to get involved. You could be a valuable collaboration partner or inform us about interesting people and ideas. Or maybe you want to host or attend a meetup about relevant topics. You can contact us by e-mail or using the contact form.

  • Yes, definitely. If your project idea aligns with our core values, we’re glad to hear from you and explore how we might collaborate.

This could be working together directly, hosting meetups in our makerspace, sharing your project through our newsletter and social media, or arranging expert sessions with members of our core team or wider network.

You can reach us through this contact form.

  • Yes, we love connecting with others and are always open to new ideas and collaborations. We love talking about how sound, touch, technology and bodily expression can come together on stage, and we have experience running workshops on these themes. You can contact us using this contact form.

  • Yes, definitely! One of our goals is to strengthen the network of our makers, so please get in touch if you’re seeking specialist knowledge. We're here to connect you with the right people.

Our core team includes makers with expertise in (but not limited to) music technology, performance arts, textiles, hardware, software, and electronics. Beyond that, we have a wider network of collaborators we've worked with over the years, so there’s a good chance we know just the person you're looking for. Simply use our contact form to let us know what kind of expertise you need, and we'll be in touch.
