Sonic Suit - DIY Wearable sound controller workshop

Are you a musician, performer, designer, coder, dancer, or a curious maker who loves mixing sound, movement, and wearables? Then join us at the Sounds Like Touch Makerspace for a unique hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to build your own interactive sonic garment using sensors, sound design tools, and your body.

This workshop is taught by multidisciplinary textile artist Federica Terracina, visual artist and robotics expert Gioele Villani and sound designer Francesco Zedde and facilitated by Sounds Like Touch.

Workshop content

The SONIC SUIT is a interactive garment prototype with a focus on movement sensors and sound design. In this workshop, you will design and realize your own sonic accessory or garment. We will prototype with sensors and microcontrollers (ESP8266 D1 mini) and experiment with sound triggered by touch, movement, proximity, light. As output, we can modulate sounds in Pure Data, tweak samples and effects in Ableton, or send MIDI signals to (modular) synthesizers.

This workshop is for musicians, costume designers, performers, technologists, sound artists, and all curious nerds. You are welcome to join whether you're a beginner or more experienced.

What to bring

Please bring your laptop and lunch (we’ll provide snacks and coffee/tea). Materials are provided but feel free to bring your own garments to transform. After the workshop, you’ll have a rechargeable sonic accessory ready for performance, installation, or parties.

How to get there

The Sounds Like Touch Makerspace is on the first floor and only accessible by stairs. Please let us know if this makes the event inaccessible for you. Come by train, bus or bike: we're located just next to station Utrecht Zuilen.
