What is Textunes?
Textunes is a set of textile instruments, created by Michelle Vossen, Roald van Dillewijn, and Dianne Verdonk. What makes it unique: it converts the electrical signals from textile sensors into music.
There is great potential in textile as a material for (co)creating music; it is accessible to the body and pleasant to the touch. It has a lot of playful qualities and works intuitively.
What is SoundLAB?
SoundLAB is a music laboratory, located within Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, with more than a hundred specially designed electronic and acoustic instruments created by artists, composers, and instrument builders.
The meetup
In this meetup we celebrate Textunes as the newest addition to the SoundLAB instrument collection!
During the meetup, we invite you to play on the remarkable instruments, such as the Dato DUO, Toonpad, Formonium, the MODi and of course: Textunes. With these instruments, you will create a completely newpiece of music together with others.
In addition you’ll hear from the makers what motivated them to create this instrument and what challenges they’ve faced in the process of developing this instrument.
